Jim Boudreau   presents   Among the Dying Fires – The End of Steam

Jim found the easiest way to get to his first job was to commute by train. This enabled a record to be made of the changes in train services and motive power down to July 1967.  From the announcement of electrification of the Bournemouth Line in September 1964, the various types of steam locomotive used locally were illustrated. This included those from other Regions repaired at Eastleigh and some information on Special Trains.  Infrastructure changes at Bournemouth Central and the progress of electrification also featured.   We were given some insights to a most thorough recording of rail traffic movements in that era.
