June 25th  2021       (Despite the delay in lifting Government restrictions* we still enjoyed meeting in person in Brockenhurst Village Hall )

"Steam in the hills"   a talk by   Simon Foote

A steam locomotive in action is in many people’s eyes a thing of great beauty and is now a source of much nostalgia. It is over 50 years since the majority of Britain’s steam railway locomotives were withdrawn from service and scrapped.

Using colour slides with stereo sound this presentation was an appreciation of the steam locomotive including some, which survived into the age of steam preservation. They were seen and heard working hard on some of the higher and more demanding parts of our surviving railway network.

This was a most impressive show, with superb photography, and atmospheric sound clips that were truly impressive.

* Although Government restrictions are still in force, we were able to cope, as the Hall is large enough to hold our numbers even when seated at 2m distance.  Masks were worn on entry, but removed once seated.   A good number turned up, and were well-behaved, in line with the Covid requirements, no risks taken, all quite safe and comfortable.

The meeting was be preceded by a short AGM

A club trip to the Cockcrow Railway is being organised for the 18th July

Bookings are needed for the September trip by the end of June. Members will be  circulated with details - if you did not receive the info, then please inform the club via this website contact page.    There are still vacancies for this outing, so make contact soon to get a place.
