and have prohibited public gatherings
and restricted travel.
We do hope to be able to re-schedule this meeting in 2021
LONDON AREA STATIONS & SHEDS 1958 – 1960 with Ken Livermore
With a dozen London termini and some eighteen operational locomotive depots, at this period ancient and modern steam locomotives could be found mixing their duties with the newly introduced ‘Pilot Scheme’ diesels.
Each of the ‘Big Four’ railway companies were well represented with many of their most impressive steam locomotives still kept in spotless condition for the most important duties. At the other end of the scale, humble shunters went about their business in vast goods yards and sidings.
This presentation sets out to capture the glamour and grime of everyday railway operation in the Capital before much of it was swept away by modernisation.
A club trip to the Cockrow Railway was organised for the 21st June - sadly this has now been cancelled owing to government restrictions. The venue has also had to close while restrictions apply. We do hope to be able to re-schedule this outing in 2021.
Bookings are needed for the August trip by the end of June. Members have been circulated with details - if you did not receive the info, then please inform the club via this website contact page.
** Members also please note - there was a trial run short virtual meeting at 8.00pm on Friday 3rd July - after a technical hitch with the first go, this was a success ! We had 23 faces on screen, and a fascinating taster session from the July speaker, Stephen Robson. All is set for a good time on July 31st.
