LONDON AREA STATIONS & SHEDS 1958 – 1960 with Ken Livermore
With a dozen London termini and some eighteen operational locomotive depots, at this period ancient and modern steam locomotives could be found mixing their duties with the newly introduced ‘Pilot Scheme’ diesels.
Each of the ‘Big Four’ railway companies were well represented with many of their most impressive steam locomotives still kept in spotless condition for the most important duties. At the other end of the scale, humble shunters went about their business in vast goods yards and sidings.
This presentation sets out to capture the glamour and grime of everyday railway operation in the Capital before much of it was swept away by modernisation.
