Robert Smith presents “German Steam 1971-76"
The end of German steam in 1968 was followed by 2 years of preserved railway open days. Then in 1971 Robert went on an LCGB railtour to Germany and revisited several times over the next 6 years. There were Pacific hauled main line trains. Right across the country much secondary passenger and vast quantities of freight traffic, steam worked with 2-10-0s.....2-8-2s...... 2-6-2s and various smaller classes. The visits included motive power depots, stations, lineside spots and the occasional footplate ride. Like all good things it came to an end with the extension of the wires and dieselization. The memories have been kept alive with a collection of Kodachromes.
