“Swiss Railway Evening" by John Fissler
In a fascinating tour, with a full house (despite the weather), John explained the NRLA (New Rail Links through the Alps) strategy and operation which includes the Lötschberg, Gotthard and Ceneri base tunnels on SBB/BLS routes before going on to look at new Rhätische Bahn infrastructure construction including the second Albula tunnel and second Hinterrhein bridge.
John is a very capable photographer, and the lush tones of Swiss landscape were crisply drawn as the backdrop to some fascinating rail scenes, featuring both steam and electric traction. The club members were thrilled and rivetted by the amazing technology revealed to our gaze. Not a dull moment!
The evening also featured a second screening, by popular request, of John’s Rhätische Bahn video film including steam and historical traction as well as the steam driven rotary snow blower on the Bernina Bahn.
Club outings in June and August - some idea of likely numbers needed very soon - come prepared!
