Mark Pedley  presented The History and Current Projects of The Urie Locomotive Society

Formed in 1972, the Urie Locomotive Society owns two of Robert Urie’s S15 class 4-6-0 locomotives, numbers 30499 and 30506, for operation at the Mid-Hants Railway.  These engines are not only the last remaining members of the class, they are also the only surviving examples of any of Robert Urie’s work.  Of particular historic importance, 30499 is the oldest Eastleigh-built locomotive surviving today.

The restoration to working order of 30499 represents a unique project.  It is the intention to return the locomotive to steam in her original LSWR, as built, condition complete with stovepipe chimney.

Both  locos were built in 1920; it is our dream to steam them together in 2020, their centenary year
