Our members enjoying the summer sun at Hurst Castle. Behind them you can just make out some of the tracks which criss-crossed the site.
The tracks were laid to transport the enormous shells fired by the great guns of the castle, built to defend the Solent approaches to the seaport of Southampton.
We did not get to see the munition trolleys used on the tracks, but enjoyed a grand tour of the Castle, finished off with a Cream Tea and caught the Ferry home to Keyhaven. Most enjoyable
